Ana's Playground : Award Winning Short Film

War And Peace In South Minneapolis

The director of this film came to us with challenge of creating a war zone for his short film about child soldiers.  He wanted it to appear to be an unspecific location and appear generic.  We created a “mock” written language for the posters and type.  The writer created a mock foreign language for the characters.  We then set out to take an area in downtown Minneapolis and make it “Somewhereistan”.  We designed and built a multitude of set pieces for the exterior and interior sets. We had created the exterior walls and a working fountain for the courtyard but needed a centerpiece for the road area.  Burned cars were not enough we felt that nothing felt like war more than a tank.  So we made one.  The film went on to win multiple awards and was short listed for an Academy Award but sadly didn’t win.
